CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program founded by the Air & Space Forces Association with the aim of motivating K-12 students to pursue careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields crucial to the future of our nation. Central to the initiative is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, the largest cyber defense contest in the nation in which high school and middle school students are tasked with safeguarding virtual networks. Additional components of the program consist of AFA CyberCamps, the CyberPatriot Alumni Network, a cyber education initiative for elementary school students, a children’s literature series, CyberGenerations - a senior citizen cyber safety initiative, and the Tech Caregivers program designed to inspire tech-savvy volunteers to give back to their communities.

Cybercamp standard

Grade as of 2024-2025 school year 

CyberCamp Standard is the perfect way to get introduced to the world of cybersecurity! Many students who attend a standard AFA CyberCamp go on to participate in CyberPatriot's National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. CyberCampers will experience 20 hours of beginner cybersecurity education:


- Introduction to Cybersecurity: career paths, cyber ethics, online safety

- How computers work, cyber threats, cybersecurity principles, virtual machines

- Windows 10: Basic security policies and tools, account management

- Linux/Ubuntu 18: Introduction to Linux, terminology and concepts

- Linus basic graphical user interface security, basic command line

Advanced AFA CyberCamps incorporate more complex concepts geared towards students who have previously participated in a camp or in the cyber defense competition. Advanced CyberCamp will teach 20 hours of advanced cybersecurity education:

Networking technology powers the Internet. Networks make it possible for us to use social media, streaming services like Netflix, ride-hailing services like Uber, and much more. Put simply, networks are critical for every industry, which is why demand for networking skills keeps rising. A strong foundational knowledge of networks can lead to a successful career in IT.

This Networking Essentials course prepares you for the entry-level Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) Network certification and entry-level roles such as Network Support Technician, Entry-level Help Desk Technician, or IT Support Specialist. You will learn how networks operate, including the devices, media, and protocols that enable network communication. Develop key skills so you can perform basic troubleshooting, using effective methodologies and help desk best practices.


Recommended Preparation:
